Middaugh Bros. Tri Camp

The first annual Middaugh Bros. Tri Camp is now in the books. That's right...it does say annual. Hopefully we can do it again next year! We had a great time working with and getting to know our campers. They were hard workers and good sports the entire time! We would also like to thank Breathe Owl Breathe for playing music, and our families for helping out and putting up with us during the entire process. More photos coming soon!

Xterra Southeast Championships

Just finished up with a brutal weekend at the Xterra Southeast Championships. It was hot, humid and down right...perfect for an xterra suffer fest. I had an average swim in the 85 degree water. My bike was solid. I rode pretty clean and steady the whole course. I was able to make it through the blood rock section thanks to the 29er and nearly blew up on the run. Athletes were crawling by the end of the run and many ended up in the med tent attached to an IV. Good Times! Josiah was second to Stoltz and is headed to Richmond. I'm heading back to TC to get things ready for our tri camp, but will compete at the Torn Shirt Xterra this weekend. Just put a sweatshirt on and it feels so good!

The photos are of Josiah on the podium and me in a gatorade drinking contest for a heart rate monitor. Lost the race, but left hydrated!

Raced last weekend in Xterra Last Stand. Bad race, with a wrong
turn I added an extra mile or so to the run. I should've known better. It's better to lead than to follow. I was caught doing the following. I just signed up for the Torn Shirt Xterra and Xterra Alabama. Hopefully I can redeem myself a bit. Two days ago I rode one of our Middaugh Bros. Tri Camp rides. It was amazing. Stunning views of Lake Michigan, rolling lush green hills...and just the right amount of climbing. Josiah and I are getting things finalized for camp and may even have Breathe Owl Breathe play on the last night. It should be great training and great fun. It's not too late to sign up!

Raced last weekend in the Starkermann Duathlon in Gaylord. Placed 2nd overall. Sort of an easy week getting ready for Xterra Last Stand this weekend. Swam in East Bay for the first time this spring. Cold, but not too bad. I could still feel my feet when finished. Clean, clear and full of fish! The same swim we will be using for our tri camp at the end of June. With temps in the 80s-90s for the next week, the water should be perfect.

I missed the group ride today. Too much to do, rain and cold all played a factor. I will stick to the "too much to do" excuse not the others. Brick indoors instead, 20 x 1 min. on the bike followed by 10 minute run. Quality not quantity! Just dug out my wetsuit, but it didn't get above 50 today. Hopefully, I can still try the Bay this weekend.

2.5 hour mountain bike yesterday on vasa 25k course and one loop of supply road single track. Hard swim today, but gave my legs a break. I signed up for Xterra Last Stand today. I can't wait to test my fitness in all three disciplines! Group ride tomorrow. Hopefully no crashes. Last week we weren't so lucky. Two went down in a pretty bad wreck and were picked up by ambulance. Really put things in perspective...

Long Cold Run

Went for a long run on the Vasa trail today in the Pere Marquette State Forest. It went back and forth between rain and snow the entire time. At least it was cold! I saw two woodpeckers, five deer and two robins, but not a single human. You can’t let the elements get the best of you. If you do, you will hate the place you live.

When I got home, my two dogs, Kestral (long-haired weiner dog) and Davos (border collie mix) were waiting at the top of the stairs. The weather doesn’t bother them either. Long bike tomorrow...

Middaugh Bros. Tri Camp

Josiah and I are hosting a pretty cool triathlon camp in Traverse City called the Middaugh Bros. Tri Camp June 24-27. It will be packed full of quality training and coaching. We are making it fit into the middle of both of our race seasons and busy family schedules. We can't wait to introduce people to the amazing training offered in the Grand Traverse area. There are some unmatched bike routes that wind through vineyards and swims in crystal clear East Bay. If you are interested you should check out www.active.com. It should be a blast! I plan to swim in East Bay for the first time in the next few weeks!
